How to Shoot Food Porn Video?

New Ideas for Food Advertising

Hey there! Today, our team had a lengthy debate about what to order in the office: pizza or burgers. The argument concluded with some internet research into nearby pizzerias and burger joints. We found pasta and a bunch of cool food porn references. We've gathered these references and packed them into this article. We won't delve into the really edgy examples, let's focus on ones that will look fresh on our screens.

Macro

Did you know that you can capture your product up close in macro while keeping it fully within the frame? Check out the first three seconds of this Heinz reference. It's a beautiful journey between the advertised product and the dish's ingredients.

Here's a link to another macro shooting reference with different ideas:

POV

Again, Heinz. We might just do a separate article about this brand. Here, we have a subtle nod to a face-of-the-product style of shooting — well, not exactly, but you get the idea. The product is presented beautifully, and the camera's flyby is cool.

Slow-Mo

Here's the pasta we found. The shot at 1:27 deserves applause from all brand marketers. These macaroni gracefully float in slow-mo into the pot. The only "but" is that these 3 seconds of "wow" take 1-2 hours to capture.

Stock Footage

Speaking of shooting time, let's talk about how to reduce it. In the reference below, you can see fantastic shots of a pot filled with water and basil leaves falling into it so gracefully. Like above, you can shoot a scene like this for hours. If you don't have the time or budget for that, let's look for something similar on stock footage sites. For instance, take a look at this amazing pomegranate shot we found on Artgrid for just $30.

Graphics

While not directly related to shooting, you can enhance your visuals with cool animations and motion graphics. Also, note how the creators of this video used a slight time-lapse effect.

To wrap up our food porn rating, we'd like to share a food-porn-style video from Ikea.
